If you look up the word "panhole" in Wikipedia you will find they are a naturally occurring geological feature in granite landscapes. They are referred to as "gnammas" in Australia. While they could be used by native populations, they are not created by them. If the hollow is in a stream area a rock can be washed into the hole. As water runs over the hole the rock wobbles around, increasing the hole depth as the rock wears away. Ask a geologist for a more detailed description.

Nice video..I just have an observation about the broken boulders in this video.Dont forget that you're fairly close to the San Andreas fault, and that the whole state is earthquake prone. A big one in 1854, 7.5ish near Fort Tejon/Frazier Park area, the 1906 of course, and who knows how many others just before white settlement. So, 10,00 plus years ago, people that lived there lived in the caves. The native Puebloans, and other tribes also chose to live in the caves. I think it wasn't because they were hiding. I think it is because it is freakin' hot there, and the caves are cool. Also, they didn't have to deal with wild animals invading their spaces, or snakes and scorpions getting in, threatening their lives. I know that if I lived there, I would definitely choose a nice sized cave and use rocks and logs to create my space.

I know they are not affiliated with the ghost adventures but the la purisima missions was on ghost adventures . My last mission in Viet Nam was pulling a 173rd LRRP team off a hillside at dusk in Mar of 70. I was in the 134th AHC at the time as a crewchief on a huey. As we approached the PZ the LRRP guiding us in was shot in the back and fell forward. My aircraft commander dove to the left off the hillside, almost smacking into a covering gunship. Day light was almost gone. We made another attempt. With the right skid touching the hillside, 4 LRRPs raced over with the wounded LRRP and threw him aboard,then jumped in. We had to wait for the 6th LRRP. He backed out of the trees firing at the NVA. He changed mags. Sprayed the area with rounds, then turned and ran over and dived into the helicopter. The other inwounded LRRPs grabbed him by the back of his web gear to hold him in while my AC dove to the left off the hillside and down into the valley. Now it was dark. My AC reported our 20 minute low fuel warning light was flashing. We had over 2o minutes to go to reach the Bong Son airstrip. It looked like we might have to try and land in the dark in the river. The ship was jerking as we ran lower lower and lower on fuel. But weade it
